Mary and Joseph: manufactured by the famous Fontanini company in Tuscany, after a sculpture by the master Elio Simonetti, 1950s / 1960s. Signature carved on the base of both statues (see pictures). Simonetti was a master of Nativity scenes, who begun his activity in 1945 and then worked for 60 years for the Fontanini company in Borgo a Mozzano (Lucca). Entirely made in Italy, they revive a centuries-old tradition. The two large-sized statues of the Madonna and Saint Joseph have been hand crafted in plaster resin. Rigorously hand painted as all pieces made by Fontanini. The lightweight plastic resins replaced, in the mid 20th century, the more fragile and heavy plaster, thus allowing a larger production, although copies of this size and in such condition are quite rare to find. Almost impossible to find. The water carrier is made of hand painted plaster resin.
