Albano Poli - Poliarte

Heavy and impressive brutalist chandelier / pendant attributed to Poliarte (Albano Poli). A central metal cube of 15 x 15 x 15 cm, which holds the light, is open on two sides and is fitted on each side with a layer of furrowed metal bars of varying lengths welded together. Two plaques of clear and amber Murano glass are fitted on the open sides of the cube. These plaques, attributed to Mazzega, consist of numerous strands of molten glass within a sturdy square glass frame. The metal bars are made of black wrought iron that has been given a silver finish. The central metal cube is made of normal iron which has been given a black and silver finish. This black and silver display, together with the beautiful glass, makes that the lamp is also very nice to look at when it is not lit. The lamp is in an excellent state, without any damages. The metal shows very little aging: the wrought iron bars show no corrosion at all, while the central cube (made of normal iron) shows some corrosion on corners or edges which have received little paint, but this is only minimal and not visable when the glass plaques are attached. The electric wiring is in a good condition. The glass plaques are in a near perfect state except for one small strand of clear glass on the back side of one of the plaques, which has broken off. This is indicated by a green arrow on one of the last pictures, and can only be noticed on a very detailed inspection. The lamp has the original chain and canopy fixture (70 cm long), with the same black and silver finish as the lamp. The lamp has been fitted with a standard size (E27) light bulb, which can be replaced by removing one of the glass plaques. Note: Although this lamp is generally attributed to Poliarte, there is a chance that it may actually be designed by the (equally renowned) Swedish design duo Tom Ahlström and Hans Ehrich (A & E Design), who made similar lamps during the same era (1968 -1970). Here is an example of a lamp of A & E that uses the same cube structure and Mazzega glass plaques: https://bit.ly/2NPvgTz. This beautiful time-piece will be carefully packed and transported. We ship globally and insured, against standard prices.
