Vico Magistretti - Cassina - Sindbad-Sofa

Vico Magistretti was a versatile Italian architect, mostly known as a designer. Magistretti was seen by many as one of the most important modernist designers of his time. He lived and worked in Milan throughout his entire career. Magistretti developed fast and from 1948 onwards, he was a regular exhibitor of the Milanese Triënnale. At the exposition organised by Fede Cheti (1905-1978) in 1949 were his rational work between famous names like Marco Zanuso, Franco Albini, Ignazio Gardella and the Castiglioni brothers. From 1980 onwards, Vico Magistretti taught at the Royal College of Art in London, becoming an Honorary Fellow in 1983 and in 1996 Senior Fellow. The 'Sinbad' is a very comfortable and timeless sofa, designed by the famous Vico Magistretti in 1980 for Cassina. Developed from the idea to place a horse blanket over an upholstered frame, seen in England in the gorgeous colours of English stables. It has the appearance of a blanket nonchalantly draped over an armchair, which doesn't loose any of the softness and trustworthiness of such a reliable piece of furniture. Ironic detachment and a love for understatement make the idea behind the project applied seemingly effortlessly into the object, an almost elegant gesture. Awards: Golden Chair, Mobelsalons Koln, Cologne, 1982 - ASID Product Design Award, New York, 1982 - Commendation of Resources Council INC., New York, 1982. The sofa is equipped with a new sleeve in woolen 'Kvadrat' fabric, worth €810. The cover can easily be removed for cleaning. The fabric below has signs of wear and reparation. Measurements per sofa: Depth: 90 cm Length: 168 cm Height: 102 cm Seat height: 40 cm Worldwide shipping. Shipping costs are for the buyer.
