Magnificent pair of carved shell casings from the folk art of the trenches dating from the First World War (1914/1918). In the trenches or at the back, to pass the time before returning to battle, the inactive, wounded or maimed “Poilus” created many everyday items from shell casings or materials recovered on the battlefield. These items are a testimony to the dexterity of their creators who were, in civilian life, skilled workers or craftsmen, or even skilled farmers. They are in a very good aesthetic condition, no major deformations, very lovely floral design, with the inscription "souvenir de Reims".
